About Us

Mission Statement
We optimize the quality of medical care and health through collaborative relationships, education, and health information management.

Who We AreAbout the Illinois Foundation for Quality Health Care
The Illinois Foundation for Quality Health Care (IFQHC) works in collaboration with providers, beneficiaries, government agencies and other health care organizations to improve health care quality throughout Illinois. IFQHC works to promote best practice models in health care and serves as an expert in the growing area of Health Information Technology and Electronic Medical Records.

Among other projects, IFQHC is currently receiving funding from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to serve as the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for the state of Illinois. As such, IFQHC is dedicated to working with physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies and other health care providers to protect and improve the quality of health care provided to Illinois’ more than 1.7 million Medicare beneficiaries

What We Do
To insure the quality of health care provided to its beneficiaries, Medicare established the Health Care Quality Improvement Program (HCQIP) and designated a QIO for each state. Specifically, HCQIP is designed to:

Assist health care providers in hospitals, physician offices, nursing homes and home health agencies with their quality improvement efforts by spreading clinically tested "best practice" health care strategies and providing free training.

Educate Medicare beneficiaries on the importance of preventive health care and their health care rights and responsibilities.

Promote publicly reported quality of care information about Illinois health care providers in order to educate beneficiaries and spur quality improvement efforts.

Respond to Medicare beneficiaries' concerns about the quality of care they receive, and conduct case reviews to determine if services provided are medically necessary, appropriate and meet professionally recognized standards of care.
